Among the hikes you can take, we recommend this rather short one that starts from the church of S. Elias in Furore, in Piazza del Carmine, and in 40 minutes takes you to the Fjord of Furore.
The path is steep only in the initial part but the exposure to the sea makes it pleasant. The final stop is the fishing village consisting of a small group of perched houses.
One of the most fascinating trekking routes on the Amalfi Coast is located between Amalfi and Scala, where the Ferriere valley crossed by the Canneto stream lies. The atmosphere is typical canyon-like, with a special microclimate that has allowed the preservation of rare vegetation.
It is possible to walk the trail in different directions, downhill starting from Minuta di Scala or the village of Pontone or uphill starting from Amalfi.
In the lower part, not far from Amalfi we cross the Valle dei Mulini (Valley of Mills) where there are the remains of the ancient paper mills and mills famous for papermaking, while going up we enter the Valle delle Ferriere, so called because of the presence of ancient iron-working environments.
Small rapids and waterfalls guard what has been a nature reserve since 1972.
The starting point of this trekking route is the hamlet of Positano, Montepertuso. After climbing up to the forestry barracks, the panorama unveils itself without too many secrets to hikers, turning your eyes to the left you can still see Montepertuso, while at the bottom here is Vettica Maggiore.
On the way you can stop or continue to Santa Maria di Castello to see the cave with the Madonna, and again to Monte Sant'Angelo at Tre Pizzi, characterized by a decidedly wild landscape different from what you encounter on the rest of the trail. Cross the rocky hemlocks to the Conocchia junction and then climb to 1444 meters above sea level, the highest peak, a natural terrace overlooking the great Gulf of Naples.
From the central square of Bomerano, a hamlet of Agerola, walk along the mule track until you reach the cave of Santa Barbara, then turn right onto the ancient Praia riverbed that leads to Praiano and Vettica Maggiore, and then slide toward the coastal road. You reach Marina di Praia by taking the steps to cala di Rezzola near the church of San Luca.
The Convent of San Nicola is located between Maiori and Minori, atop a hill in the center of the valleys of the Lattari Mountains. Although it is not very high, it allows you to enjoy spectacular scenery, with the peaks of Mount Sant'Angelo that light up when the sun rises, Mount Finestra, the Demanio mountains, and again the Avvocata.
In the center instead is the valley of Reginna Minor and the little houses of Minori, to the west is the rocky spur where Scala and Ravello stand blissfully, and to the east is the valley of Maiori. Departure is possible either from Minori or Maiori via numerous paths among which we recommend the "lemon path" that leads to the Torre village, along the way you will find clear directions to the convent.
Borgo Marinaro trail: from the Belvedere Fausto Coppi (Agerola) to the Fiordo di Furore (2 km - low difficulty)
Trekking on the Amalfi Coast allows you to discover undiscovered places, such as those on this trail that leads from the Fausto Coppi belvedere in Agerola straight to the Fjord of Furore. The steps leading down to the sea are not very difficult, so if this is your first time wearing hiking boots, this is the kind of trail for you.
The ascent to Mount Falerzio on whose slopes stands the Sanctuary of the Avvocata is among the most evocative walks, where nature, history, and popular religious tradition come together to perfection.
Excursions on the Amalfi Coast are all characterized by the presence of stairs, even the one leading to the Sanctuary of the Avvocata is no different, especially in the first part of the ascent.
Once in Maiori, one starts from the Via del Casale and, after numerous stairs, arrives at the locality of San Vito crossing typical coastal terraces and the ruins of old houses.
From San Vito about half an hour's walk separates you from the ruins of the farmer's house in the locality of Santa Maria and the spring called "chestnut water," a little higher up. Flat stretches alternate with steep, uphill ones, and after passing by the Grottone and the Teglia, another vast plateau opens up with the Avvocata church.
Among the points of special interest to mention on this route is the lookout point leading to the top of the mountain, where, along the vertiginous walk, we encounter the cave of Matteo Salese. Legend has it that he threw himself into the void after a chase with gendarmes.
It starts from an old carcara, a stone building for making lime, a short walk from the restaurant. After a few minutes uphill, you come to a wide path that will allow you to take several hikes, all equally fascinating.
Lifting your eyes above your head you will have the massif of Monte Piano, an ideal place for those who love climbing, and the caves of Capo d'Orso. Walking toward Maiori you will enjoy the scenic trail and can reach, returning to the state highway, the thousand-year-old abbey of Santa Maria de Olearia .
Heading towards Cetara, you can reach the Vallone di San Nicola above Erchie, where, set in a cave, the remains of the very ancient convent of San Nicola de Carbonaris are still visible and pocho distant the waterfalls of Erchie. Other paths cross along the way, including one that leads to the Avvocata.
Definitely more challenging is the hike that will take you to discover the Lattari Mountains. From San Lazzaro, you will head expeditiously toward the Lauritano Castle and then enter the path that leads to Mount Murillo and toward the Alta Via dei Monti Lattari.
You will be immersed in the wildest greenery of Mediterranean scrub, with flashes of panoramic views of the Valle dei Mulini, crossed by the Canneto, with spectacular waterfalls.
If you are not afraid of heights, you can always start from San Lazzaro, leave Lauritano Castle on the left and take the scenic fork to the right, setting off on a paved road and again on a path that leads higher and higher. When you reach Mount Murillo at about 910 meters above sea level, you begin the slow descent between hairpin bends and other paths that circle around and embrace the valley.
Arriving at the crossroads for Madonna dei Fuondi, we proceed towards Mount Malegnano where the Acquolella spring is already ready to welcome hikers. Continuing straight ahead here is where the beauty of the village of Scala, which is 2 km from Pogerola, is revealed; in a little less than half an hour, following the ancient mule track, here you finally arrive in Amalfi.
Trekking and the Amalfi Coast is a perfect match, especially in Ravello where every single sound is symphony and turns into a soundtrack. Starting from Piazza del Duomo, reach the church of Santa Maria a Gradillo, turn left and then go down the stairs, at some point you will find a sign on which it says "To Amalfi." More stairs and the descent to Atrani is the beginning of this hike, at the "Ravello-Pontone" junction turn right and after the first bend continue through what is the Dragon Valley.
Just before entering Atrani you can see the old cemetery and the Church of the Carmine; to reach Piazza Umberto I you are spoiled for choice because here all paths lead to the heart of the village.
