Furore, the 90th anniversary of the Hostaria di Bacco

The history of the taste of tradition on the Amalfi Coast

Pe' cient'ate anne! Cu 'na bona ciorta e 'na bona salute!" This is the message of good wishes, strictly in the vernacular, that we would like to address to the ancient Hostaria di Bacco in Furore, in view of the milestone of its first ninety years in business. A gourmet restaurant and boutique hotel of great charm and established reputation on the Amalfi Coast, an establishment of ancient tradition, still run with passion and expertise by the Ferraioli family for four generations. Here Raffaele Viviani composed a short song, recorded in the guest register of the 1940s, that describes his experience at Bacco's as follows: "'Na loggia scicca ca è 'nu belvedere, 'nu piatto e vermecielle ca par par'oro e pe' tramente magne e guarde 'o mare!"
Highlighted by the Michelin Guide and numerous other advisors, Bacco di Furore is part of the prestigious Union of Restaurants ofBuon Ricordo, founded by the Touring Club and counting just over one hundred establishments (including four in Campania: the Stuzzichino in Sant'Agata sui due Golfi, M'ama in Praiano, Pascalò in Vietri sul Marre) all of which are of medium to high level scattered throughout Italy.
Young Domenico Ferraioli, son of art and true host, anticipates the event scheduled for late September on the occasion of the 90th anniversary: "Our club is turning 90 and we are organizing a big celebration," he anticipates. Despite being almost a century old, we can well say that in it there is no tiredness or decline in enthusiasm. This liveliness is due to the atmosphere of warm welcome that we strive to ensure for our welcome guests. To remember, to recall, to engage the heart or the mind, to engage the soul or the intellect? What matters is to build a positive memory. We would like our guests to always keep good memories of our restaurant! This 2020 has challenged us but we are there and we have found our guys, our even more cohesive and passionate team and fantastic new arrivals who have added value, prestige and soul" .
It is no coincidence that it is for four generations that the Ferraioli family has been striving to profess their credo as good prophets of the so-called "Fish Fox" cuisine, conjugated between sea and land and respectful of the territory and the season.
It was, in fact, grandfather Raffaele Ferraioli (not to be confused with his grandson of the same name, the legendary mayor of Furore) who opened this "trattoria" (as these characteristic establishments with "home-style" cuisine were called at the time) back in 1930.
A full ninety years have passed since then and only ten more are left to cross the 100-year milestone. In September it will be a big party: preparations have already been underway for some time to remember, to tell, to taste, to reintroduce a slice of the history of Furore and of a family united by the love of traditions and good food.
