Baccofurore Amalficoast - Painted Hotel & Hostaria by Dominic Bacchus

I had left Ms. Erminia's tasty Mediterranean cuisine one rainy November 2018 ... I told myself I would be back soon ... because I couldn't resist that lemon sorbet of hers ... but it wasn't to be!

A few years later, having read about the renewed judgment given of the MICHELIN Guides On this structure ...

"From the coast, between hairpin bends and small hamlets, it takes patience to get to Furore (Italy), a municipality along the road made famous by the wine cellar Marisa Cuomo Wineries (just on the other side from the restaurant). Once up here, however, the expansive view of the sea will have amply repaid the short trip. The cuisine, too, will give you satisfaction, offering the fragrance of local ingredients cooked between tradition and a dash of imagination. The comfortable rooms, almost all panoramic, have recently been renovated."

... I told myself the time had come!

So here I am, on a warm Sunday in early September, leaving the Amalfi State Road at the junction for hilly Agerola and embarking on that winding climb of about 8 km that leads into the "terroir" of Furore (I use the French lexicon not by chance) because not only is it one of the most evocative villages on the Amalfi Coast, heritage UNESCO known for its picturesque Fjord, but because from an enoic point of view Fiorduva now represents an excellence of which we Italians can be proud.

I still find the little houses clinging to the slopes of the mountains, the verdant vegetation climbing between rocks and overhangs, the unexpected terraced rows of grapes, the panoramic views that suddenly open up, and then ... then there is Hosteria Bacco Furore.

Apparently nothing has changed in this white Mediterranean architecture with a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea, but the "fan" of plaques hanging on the wall that peeps out at the entrance to the restaurant makes me realize how Domenico Bacco's commitment -in promoting the family brand in the food and wine world- has achieved its goals. After all, it is he and his wife Imma who are today the heralds of this great little Amalfi enterprise.

Renewed are the interiors, renewed is now the accommodation that is iconically distinguished both by the type and quality of the proposal, renewed is the kitchen now led by Raffaele Afeltra, renewed is the room that seems to me to be all female.

On the other hand, however, I could say that unchanged is the relationship between the interior and the view, unchanged is the pictorial poetics that binds the village to the hotel, unchanged is the quality of the raw materials, unchanged is the kindness of those who welcome me and those who serve me ... up to Mr. Fernando (who more than being a barman is the institutionalized coffee).

What I like to point out, however, is that on a day when patron Domenico was absent the whole structure turned out perfectly-this is typical of a great restaurant!

"The cuisine," you ask? This appears to me to be one of those situations where pointing out a dish may seem like a demerit for the one not mentioned: so I tell you that if you love the sea, authentic cooking, generous dishes, the colors, flavors and aromas of the coast this is the place for you ... then you will find that the pairings with Marisa Cuomo's wines will make all the difference!
