The extreme point of the Sorrento Peninsula is Punta Campanella with its marine reserve, from which the island of Capri can be distinctly observed. The backbone of the coast is the Lattari Mountains, whose lush nature and very picturesque paths make it one of the most popular destinations for trekking lovers.

Sorrento is the capital of the peninsula and the most famous and mentioned town but no less rich in history, beauty and traditions are the other towns such as the popular seaside resorts of Vico Equense, Massa Lubrense and Meta di Sorrento; the ancient Stabiae buried by the eruption of Vesuvius along with Pompeii and Herculaneum and currently known as Castellammare di Stabia; Agerola, from which the famous Sentiero degli Dei (Gods' Trail) departs; Pimonte, whose name means town among the mountains; Lettere and Gragnano known for their very tasty pasta; Sant'Agnello and Piano di Sorrento.
Sorrento occupies an extremely advantageous position. Situated on a 50m rocky outcrop it can offer tourists a striking "balcony" from which to view the entire Gulf, including Naples, Capri and the unmistakable profile of Vesuvius.
